Unsurprisingly, the 10 richest clubs are coming from the 5 most important football championships in Europe: England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

We can also notice that English clubs dominate with 5 teams in the ranking, this is logical because the Premier League is the most popular championship in the world and which brings most of the revenues thanks to the TV broadcast.

Besides, the Spanish clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are at the first place due to the fact that they are by far the best teams in their own championship so they are getting most of the TV broadcast money parts. They also gained a lot from the sales of the by-products, partly thanks to the presence of the 2 current best players in the world in their teams, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

But if we go further in the studies of the Real Madrid, we can state that this club is the king of “foot business” in terms of the sums it spends and earns. To prove it, Forbes announced that Real Madrid was the club which worths the most in all sports considered (2,5 billions euros). They usually spend huge amounts of money on the transfer market to obtain the most famous players and then win money from the sales of product and TV broadcast, thanks to these football stars. This new strategy in the football industry begun in 2000 when Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, decided to transform the football club into a global brand with successful communication and marketing strategies.

We can assume that the Paris-Saint-Germain is following the same strategy than Real Madrid: to hire the best players and develop the club thanks to money and marketing. And it seems to work given that they are now at the 5th rank, an unbelievable progression and a performance that none French club achieved before.

Now, we can wonder how the PSG will bridge the gap with Real Madrid, as it’s a recent club with new investors. The Qataris have, of course, unlimited resources but the football world has changed for a few years. They are more competition and new rules are put in place to avoid this “foot business” ruled by money.
